Scaling and Root Planing

Treat acute gum disease

WHAT IS SCALING AND ROOT PLANING?

Treat acute gum disease

If you have a periodontal disease that is leading to your gums being inflamed, jaw bone loss, and/or tooth loss, this can lead to increased bacteria and damage your teeth and your oral health further.

Think of scaling and root planing as a deep cleaning of your gums. This non-surgical procedure can help treat your periodontal disease. This procedure is more in depth than a normal cleaning would be.

Plaque and tartar have the ability to accumulate under the gum line. The Scaling & Root Planing service removes this plaque and tartar. Scaling will occur first, cleaning the tooth to free it from any plaque or tartar. Any of these plaques or tartars that appear under the gumline will be removed as well. Root Planing helps to prevent further damage to the teeth by smoothing the roots of the teeth to free them from any bacteria.
